Shibori An Ancient Japanese Dye Technique. Shibori is known to be one of the oldest Indigo dying techniques in Japan, most popular in the early Edo period when lower class people where forbidden from wearing silk. ... There are six major known Shibori techniques; Kanoko, Miura, Kumo, Nui, Arashi and Itajime.
Shibori is the Japanese word for a variety of ways of embellishing textiles by shaping cloth and securing it before dyeing. The word comes from the verb root shiboru, "to wring, squeeze, press." ... Cloth shaped by these methods is secured in a number of ways, such as binding and knotting.

Please be advised this pillow cover is made to order and may vary slightly in design from photo pictured above. No two fabrics are identical. Due to the handmade nature of this material there may be slight variances and markings. These imperfections contribute to the authenticity of the fabric and are not considered flaws. Rather, they add to the product’s character and charm. Furthermore, as is the nature of this dyeing process, there may be certain spots that are darker or lighter than others giving it that "ombre" look. Again, no two pieces are exactly alike.
